Thanks for taking time out of your day to learn a-bit more about me.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, my name is Sean Hakes and I am a Denver SEO, Web Designer and Online Marketer.

I have been involved web based technologies for about 9 years. I can design websites (I tend to outsource it to Graphic Design Experts) I can program in a linux based environment (php, mysql, linux systems admin etc..), and most importantly I know, understand and can appreciate online marketing and search engine optimization.

Most self proclaimed SEO EXPERTS don’t really truly understand SEO.  Here’s a list of what I think characterizes a true SEO and Online Marketer…

1. SEO MUST UNDERSTAND WEB DEVELOPMENT: SEO goes far beyond link building and making a few changes to titles, though this may work short-term, it’s not a very good competitive stratedgy.
2. SEO MUST  UNDERSTAND BASIC SYSTEMS ADMIN: Sure, it’s cool that you know how to login to a simple WordPress Administration area and select the feature for Permalinks, but do you fully understand how to manually create them via Apache’s mod_rewrite?  How about implementing 301 & 302 redirects from .htaccess?
3. SEO MUST KNOW HOW TO CUSTOMIZE WORDPRESS THEMES: Not all WordPress themes come bundled with SEO love. Sometimes you will need to go far and beyond the call of duty and edit some CSS and other tags SEs deem important to your websites rankings.
4. SEO MUST KNOW HOW TO BUILD QUALITY LINKS
5. SEO MUST KNOW SEO INFLUENCES LIKE, SOCIAL REFERENCES ETC..

The list goes on but these are some basic understands that  I think are important for a true SEO to know. If you don’t  plan on hiring me, it’s worth giving your candidate a good basic technology test to see if they understanding the underlying technology.
