Contractor Marketing - Internet Advertising VS. Print Media

27 December 2008 2 Comments

It’s blasted all over the internet, internet marketing/advertising is by far superior to outdated print advertising options such as your local yellow pages provider or your local news paper right? With the growing concerns of the United States and World economy its important as a business owner that you invest your capital into low risk marketing campaigns that are almost guaranteed to bring you a return on your investment.

Let’s look at the pro’s and con’s of advertising online and print:

Print Advertising:

  • PROS: If your target audiance is the older generations, chances are you still have a valid audiance who might not have the ability to go online to look for services. Contrary to the popular belief there is still a large print readership audiance, the only downfall is it tends to be the much older generation who might not have the learning curve or the want to learn new high tech technology that newer computers and the internet bring.
  • CONS: Print advertising is VERY expensive and tends to bring no to little return, in many cases a loss on investment (LOI). Print advertising also tends to only penetrate older audience, if your company targets a younger audience this might not be the best direction for your company. Print Advertising is a high cost, low return on investment overall.

Online / Internet Advertising:

  • PROS: Online advertising is a low cost high return on investment marketing stratedgy. Online marketing is great for sales lead generation, high traffic and typically high conversion on stratedgy. You can now reach by far a greater audiance than print could even get close to touching for a fraction of the cost. Get instant credability with consumers and start branding your company instantly.
  • Cons: As I mentioned above, if your audience is typically older folks, chances are they do not know how or don’t want to learn how to use computers to access the internet. Many of our beloved older generation can tend to be afraid of the internet and trust the shopping only with traditional media sources such as the local paper or yellow pages book.

Additional Notes: Many companies such as Mount Evans Design in Denver offer online advertising solutions that include instant lead generation capabilities. In Colorado a Denver Asphalt and Denver Roofing company recieved instant credability and online sales leads by subscribing to a low cost high traffic niche online yellow page directory.
