Why Being ‘Local’ Is More Important than You Think

9 March, 2010 (18:53) | Google / SEO, Search Engine Marketing | By: admin

Think about it: Consumers shop local for a reason and it’s not a coincidence Google launched, Google Local as well as personalized search results that serve up local businesses which are closest to the end users i.p address.

Jobing.com, a local job search engine is a pioneer in the locally focused business arena. Aaron Matos, the Founder and CEO for Jobing.com has the right idea and he has implemented his idea from the stat.

Employers want to connect with local talent, and job seekers want to apply to jobs near them. Creating a local presence not only builds trust in consumers, it creates loyalty and is a comforting feeling to help with their purchasing decisions.

Is going local simply a trend or is it something consumers have wanted from the beginning? Sure there are some exceptions but 80% of consumers asked agreed they feel more  comfortable working with someone locally, someone they know they can talk to in person should any problems or concerns arise.

My advice to national franchises, national lead aggregates and any other local brand who is trying to reach local customers is simple; market yourself on a local level.

I asked a group of job seekers from three different markets where Jobing.com was headquartered… they all responded with their respective city. That’s simply, great branding.

Isn’t it time you’ve decided to go Local?

Liberty Bell Denver Takes a Stab At Online Services – Yikes!

5 March, 2010 (18:22) | Reviews | By: admin

Liberty Bell in Denver, CO takes a stab at online services for small biz.

Liberty Bell, a Denver Telecommunications provide is one of those businesses who I don’t think would be doing well if they hadn’t landed a sweet investment deal with popular T.V and Radio, Denver Consumer AdvocateTom Martino.

Founded in 1995 by Nigel Alexander and Shawn Stickle, Liberty Bell was setup to be a one-stop shop for ‘ALL’ small business telecom and computing needs including Broadband Internet Access, Phone Lines, Computing Services, and Internet Growth Consulting.

Because this blog is dedicated to Online Marketing, I am going to skip talking about Broadband Internet and Phone Lines which I know very little about and focus more so on their internet growth consulting and see how their services actually stack up.

Before I get started… I emailed Christina Neher, Liberty Bell’s Chief Operations Office  (COO) several times and received no response, not even a, ‘hey thanks for writing I’m busy and ill get back to you later,’ response. Oh well, this blog will only appear to anyone and everyone who is looking for information on the Liberty Bell Denver…

Let’s get started. Read more »

Some of the Biggest Mistakes Home Improvement Contractors Make

25 February, 2010 (19:24) | Contractor Marketing | By: admin

Many home improvement contractors regardless of shape or seem to neglect their online sales opportunities and later ponder why their bottom line has flat lined. Here are a few tips to help you home improvement contractors turn a little success with your local internet advertising.

  1. Respond to Emails: I submitted a real life project to 10 Denver area plumbing companies via their website. Of the 10 I submitted emails to, 1 replied… and that was over a week from my original submission!
  2. Make sure  your Email Works:  Believe it or not many contractors regardless of industry or size promote bad emails. I tested over 20 emails promoted on various trade contractors websites and hand nearly a 50% fail rate.
  3. Broken Pages & Links: How to you expect a home or business owner to hire you if your website doesn’t work? I found a handful of contractors who were actively promoting their website who had websites that had missing pages and broken links.
  4. Google Adwords/ PPC: Sometimes it’s this is hard to catch but this could be disastrous to your bottom line. I found several businesses who were participating in Google AdWords (paying high cost per clicks) who had active campaigns that linked to non-working pages. This is a big Whoops!

Most importantly – treat your online marketing and sales as if you had an actual sales opportunity standing in your office. I find more often then not that small business owners in many fields neglect a checks and balance system to ensure your online marketing investment is working, and more importantly how others perceive your business.
