Professional Life:

Denver SEOSean Hakes is a serial entrepreneur with a serious addiction to digital marketing. In 2001, Sean Hakes started a print magazine in Denver. He quickly realized that print was no longer a cost-effective way to reach the masses and moved his entertainment magazine online. With a background in website development, he grabbed a few books, starting browsing forums and quickly picked up the ‘nack’ for search engine optimization. From there he created a search engine called ‘Think Thinker’ where he tested various SEO techniques and attempted to mimic Google’s algorithm. For several years, Sean continued to test his abilities on web properties he owned. Before he knew it, friends & family started to ask for his help. Word spread, and by 2004 he had launched his first digital marketing agency which he later sold for a profit.

In 2010 he launched his 2nd digital marketing agency, JEMSU (formally Denver SEO, Inc) which was acquired by an investment firm in late 2011.

Between 2011 and 2015 Sean served as an independent consultant for various enterprise-level organizations including Lending Tree, IAC,, and others as well as appointed as an SEO Expert Witness in U.S. District Court where he’s testified in high-profile SEO/SEM related cases.

In late 2015, Altitude SEO was born and has quickly grown to become one of Colorado’s most regarded technical digital marketing firms.

Personal Life

Sean Hakes has lived in Colorado his entire life. He grew up in ‘A-Town’ Aurora. At the age of 18, he joined the Air National Guard and perused his passion for technology & marketing at the University of Advancing Technologies. In 2006 tragedy struck. Sean and a few friends were camping just west of Fort Collins and was shot in the back of the head in an accidental shooting. After surgery, Sean realized just an hour later, he could have easily have been dead. The doctors told him he may never walk again. They also said there was a very good chance he may never get his vision back and would likely go through depression due to his traumatic brain injury. His recovery shocked his doctors. Before he left the hospital he was able to walk and in a few short years his vision came entirely back — life was good & Sean was on a mission to do BIG things in life.

Shortly after, Sean met his wonderful wife Adriana – it was love at first sight. Sean and Adriana quickly figured out on their first date they both had something in common, they had both experienced brain trauma! Several years later, they had their first Child, Levi followed by their daughter, Amara.

When not helping entrepreneurs do BIG things in their business, Sean enjoys being a pilot and flying his family around in his Piper Cherokee and working on his new project, flyy!
